Hitchcock's Definition of Happiness

Alfred Hitchcock defines his idea of happiness. These are words that I live by.

Hitchcock happiness happy

Alfred Hitchcock interview (part 1 of 6) Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder Fall 1973

Here it is. Long thought to be lost or destroyed a complete recording has been found of one of the few hour long interviews of Alfred Hitchcock . Originally broadcast as one of the first Tomorrow Shows with Tom Snyder in the Fall of 1973. This recording is from a second repeat of this show broadcast on Memorial day, 1980. The VHS (SP) tape itself was found to be in excellent condition. While properly stored in a climate controlled environment it apparently had not been played in decades. Great care has been taken to make the digital transfer. This segment deals with what Alfred Hitchcock himself is afraid of (ie policemen), is he REALLY a monster?, and what's his idea of happiness?

North By Northwest

Selected as one of the top 50 American films of all time by the prestigious American Film Institute, and considered by many critics to be Hitchcock's greatest film, this fast-paced thriller stars Oscar-winner Cary Grant ("Notorious," "The Philadelphia Story") as a Madison Avenue advertising exec who is mistaken for someone else and kidnapped by a group of international spies, headed by James Mason ("A Star Is Born," "Lolita"). After a hair-raising escape, he is framed for a murder he didn't commit and goes on the run with the lovely Eva Marie Saint ("Superman Returns," "On the Waterfront"). Famous for a wild plane attack and a harrowing chase across the faces of Mount Rushmore, this is quintessential Hitchcock ("Psycho," "The Birds"). With Academy Award-winner Martin Landau ("Ed Wood," "The Majestic") as Mason's evil henchman, this film is the rare combination of action, suspense and humor. MPAA Rating: NOTRATED Copyright (c) 1959 Turner Entertainment Co.

Michael Gough (Alfred Pennyworth ) Dies at 94

Michael Gough, who played Alfred Pennyworth in director Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns, as well as Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, passed away today (March 17th) at the age of 94. The Dark Knight - Some Men Just Want To Watch The World Burn

One, out of many, great lines from The Dark Knight. Alfred Pennyworth: [...] with respect Master Wayne, perhaps this is a man you don't fully understand either. A long time ago, I was in Burma, my friends and I were working for the local government. They were trying to buy the loyalty of the tribal leaders by bribing them with precious stones. But their caravans were being raided in a forest north of Rangoon by a bandit. So we went looking for the stones. But in six months, we never met anyone who traded with him. ...One day I saw a child playing with a ruby the size of a tangerine. The bandit had been throwing them away. Bruce Wayne: So why steal them? Alfred Pennyworth: Because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn. Note: In the movie The Man Who Would Be King (1975) Caine stars alongside Sean Connery and in a scene where they are surrounded by jewels Connery picks up a ruby and says something to the effect of it being as big as an orange. Caine then picks one up the size of a tangerine and says NOW THAT'S A RUBY. Nolan (probably) used that as the reference for this scene.

Alfred Hitchcock: Blackmail and Easy Virtue

Two early films from the Master of Suspense populate this compilation disc. In Blackmail (1929) -- the director's first talkie -- the illicit tryst of a young woman (Anny Ondra) leads to a sexual assault, blackmail and, eventually, murder. The silent melodrama Easy Virtue (1927) chronicles the life of a young divorcée (Isabel Jeans) who tries to start over in France with a new name but finds she can't escape the taint of scandal.
