Presented during the Ural Expo Mars 2000 in Nizim Tagile, BMPT (Object 199), was constructed in Ural Transport Machine Construction Bureau (UKBTM). The prototype was developed as the own initial of UKBTM and uses the T-72/90 tank chassis. The purpose of the vehicle differs from the Achzarit and BTR-T transporters. The task of BMPT (in the constructors' assumption) is not safe transport of infantries in the terrain threatened by direct enemy anti-tank fire or in areas where operations of typical infantry transport mediums are impeded (urban area, mountains). It is meant to provide fire support to the tanks. The experience gained from post War II conflicts showed, that the tank crews are forced to locate and engage too many types of targets -- not only other tanks and armored vehicles, but also light field fortification, fire position, even single soldiers armed with light anti-tank weapons. All these have a negative influence to the accomplishment of the major task -- engage enemy tanks and fortification. BMPT vehicles, moving along with the tanks, are to combat secondary targets like IFVs, armored transporters, infantries and other weapons that could post threats to the tanks -- and therefore it is named: Tank assistance combat vehicle. The common position in combat grouping with tanks forces the BMPT to be protected by equivalent armor. The BMPT, sometimes nicknamed the Terminator, is a new Russian armored vehicle, designed to support tank operations, primarily in urban areas. The BMPT combat vehicles can change tactics of combat actions and significantly increase efficiency of tank units. It is a versatile anti-personnel vehicle that can engage multiple targets. The BMPT is expected to enter service with the Russian Army during the next couple of years. The vehicle is protected by passive and reactive armor. Interior is fitted with Kevlar lining which protects against spalling. It is also fitted with NBC protection and automatic fire suppression systems. BMPT (Russian: Боевая Mашина Поддержки Tанков, transliteration: Boyevaya Mashina Podderzhki Tankov) is a Russian abbreviation that translates to Tank Support Fighting Vehicle (TSFV). a new Russian armored vehicle designed to support tank and infantry operations, primarily in urban areas. This vehicle is sometimes nicknamed the "Terminator". The history of the vehicle can be traced back to the First Chechen War. During urban engagements, Russian forces suffered heavy losses in manpower and equipment. While the losses cannot be blamed on technology, it became clear that a dedicated anti-personnel fighting vehicle would provide valuable assistance in an urban environment, a new combat vehicle that should be built on a tank chassis and offer the same or better protection as an MBT (Main Battle Tank). When used in urban terrain, the BMPT is employed on a 2 to 1 ratio; meaning 2 BMPTs protecting one MBT. In rural operations that ratio is reversed; meaning one BMPT protecting 2 MBTs. This results from the complexity of fighting in urban terrain and the need for a versatile anti-personnel machine that can engage multiple targets at once and on different height levels. The introduction of such a vehicle makes urban fighting less stressful on tanks and can relieve them of some of the workload to concentrate on their main objective of engaging other tanks and hardened targets. BMPT (Tank Assistance Combat Vehicle) firing demonstration during Tagil Russian Expo Arms 2011. Damn fog:P The BMPT vehicle is intended to defeat a variety of anti-tank threats and features a new turret with 2 30mm 2A42 auto cannons, 4 ATGM "Ataka-T" and 1 PKT MG. The other armament are 2 30mm AG-17 grenade launchers embedded in hull. The vehicle has numerous of sighting-observing equipment available in multi-channel modes including commander's panoramic sight and a modern electronic equipment complex. The vehicle is protected by additional armor plates and extended ERA layout in addition to standard protection means.
