Or, at least, this is part of the test drive. I drove a few more laps after this where I got a bit more aggressive with the driving. I'll do a blog post about this later. Very nice car, I want one. The car is electric. No gas drives the wheels. Gas engine only comes on to generate electricity to power the 400 pounds of batteries in the car. The Volt ships later this year in a limited number of cities and pricing has not been announced yet.

This is a video of the new Chevy Volt. I think there is some misconception on who should own a Chevy Volt. We leased a Volt to be part family car and part work car. It is awesome that I am able to drive to and from work without using ANY gasoline. The Chevy Volt will take me anywhere from 32-38 miles without the use of any gas. After that it switches over to gas, but still gets excellent gasoline (33-40mpg). The biggest factor is your personal driving style - in some ways it is pretty fun to find new ways to boost your mileage. In terms of features, the Volt is loaded with all of the options you would expect in a high-end car. It offers a great stereo, comfortable seats, and a control panel that would make the Star Trek jealous. I will admit, that at first it can be quite overwhelming - and it will take time to learn. A few other notes- - The acceleration is very solid. While the Volt will never be mistaken as a sports car it does have a performance that is comparable to most mid-sized sedans. I am impressed. - The battery in the Volt does take up a fair amount of room, but the Volt can still seat 4. The back seat does not offer much leg room, but it is comparable to most small cars. - Charging - it takes 8 hours on a 110/120 Volt wall outlet, but you can reduce the time by 50% by going to a 240Volt. - The Volt does not have a transmission, which does take some time to get used to. - Warranty - it is safe to say that you are covered for the first 8-10 years.
