Military Vehicles [United States]: AM General M1113 HMMWV "Humvee" (US Army)
Language of Video Presentation: English The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV or Humvee) is a military 4WD motor vehicle created by AM General, a heavy vehicle manufacturer based in South Bend-Indiana, USA . The vehicle has largely supplanted the roles formerly served by smaller Jeeps such as the M151, M561, and other light trucks. Primarily used by the United States military, it is also used by a number of other countries and organizations and in civilian adaptations (Hummer). The HMMWV was designed primarily for personnel and light cargo transport behind front lines. Like the previous Jeep, the basic HMMWV (M998) has no armor or protection against nuclear, biological, and chemical threats. Nevertheless, losses were relatively low in conventional operations. With the rise of asymmetric warfare and low intensity conflicts, the military recognized a need for a more protected HMMWV and AM General developed the M1113, an armoured HMMWV to withstand small arms fire that had been in limited production since 1996. Its design is superior to the M998 with a larger, more powerful turbocharged engine, air conditioning, increased payload, and a strengthened suspension system. More importantly, it boasts a fully armoured passenger area protected by hardened steel and bullet-resistant glass. 1987 AMG HMMWV with Peter (ASP)
Auto-Showcase Project (ASP) presents Peter's 1987 AMG HMMWV (Humvee). HMMWV stands for High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle or also known as Humvee (4X4). Peter's HMMWV was fully restored and converted into a replica military vehicle. His HMMWV carries Vietnam era radio equipment that works, a rotating gun port, rucksacks, working night-vision and regular cameras, and unreal weapons. It is apparent that it carries 2 .50 Browning machine guns (aka Ma Deuce), rocket launchers, and M4 Carbines. Of course the weapons on it are all unreal, but it adds the nostalgia and realism to it. Predator Hummer HMMWV Big Brake System
Testing on Predators 6 Piston Big Brake System designed to increase safety and performance of the M-1152 and similar variant GMV's. Testing was performed on an up-armored GMV equipped with frag-5 doors. 60-0mph braking averaged 92 feet with an approximate weight of 14000lbs. Language of Video Presentation: English. The M998 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV or Humvee) is an early Humvee vehicle model created by AM General. Developments started in the 1970s when the United States Army concluded that the militarized civilian trucks in use no longer satisfied their requirements. Among the contenders were Lamborghini which in 1977 developed the Cheetah model in an attempt to meet the Army contract specifications. In 1979, the Army drafted final specifications for a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, or HMMWV and by July of that year, AM General (a subsidiary of American Motors Corporation) began preliminary design work. In less than a year later, the first prototype, the M998, was in testing. In June 1981, the Army awarded AM General a contract for development of several more prototype vehicles to be delivered to the US government for another series of tests, and the company was later awarded the initial production contract for 55000 HMMWVs to be delivered in 1985. HMMWVs first saw combat in Operation Just Cause, the US invasion of Panama in 1989. Since then, the HMMWV has become the vehicular backbone of US forces around the world. For example, over 10000 were deployed by coalition forces during Operation Iraqi Freedom, the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
