RUBICON : A Legendary Jeep Trail & Off-Road Adventure - Part 2 of 3
Originally made as a single half hour video, RUBICON : A Legendary Jeep Trail & Off-Road Adventure was broken down into a 3 part series, each approximately 10 minutes long and done so that it could be broadcasted on YouTube. In episode 2, we pick-up the pieces of Inyo-JK's Jeep, brush off the dust and continue our trek to Rubicon Springs. Along the way, we pass by the Soup Bowl, take in the impressive views across Spider Lake, descend the off camber granite slabs, tackle the rock obstacles at Buck Island Lake, negotiate our way down the very challenging Big Sluice, add a couple of stock Canadian Jeeps to our group, cross the historic Rubicon Bridge and then, just as we we pull into camp, we hear a call coming in over the CB... it's Trail Bud. Crossing through the El Dorado National Forest up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the Rubicon Trail is truly one of the most beautiful ones I've been on, bar none. Of course, its unrelenting 22 miles of boulders that need to be crawled, steep ledges that need to be climbed, narrow trees that need to be squeezed between, deep muddy water crossings that need to be forded and tippy off camber terrain that needs to be carefully negotiated is ultimately what makes the Rubicon Trail so legendary and famous around the world.

Jeep Rubicon and Toyota FJ Cruiser Off-Road in Hawaii
We witnessed first hand the capabilities of both vehicles on the trails. I'm personally a Toyota guy, having owned several Toyota 4x4s, an FJ and now a Tacoma. They aren't evenly matched because the Jeeps articulation and flexibility with the solid front axle, shorter wheel base and being lighter weight. Driver experience, error and patience were also contributing factors in how each vehicle performed. We didn't create this video to make one seam better than the other. Ohana Trails is a Jeep Club here that we were filming and by chance, a group of FJ Cruiser owners were convoying with them. Unfortunately, we had more video of the Jeeps over the FJ's. Project-JK Sidewinder Bronco Peak Jeep Trail
Bronco Peak is a short trail that is situated within the Corral Canyon OHV area and is located just south of I-8 near to the town of Alpine or about half an hour east of El Cajon. According to the Southern California Back Roads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails book by Charles Wells, Bronco Peak is an difficult rated nasty hardcore trail very steep with tight brush large boulders and that several places are steep enough to cause a rollover if driver is not careful front and rear lockers are recommended. And, even thought its only 2.7 miles long, it is also recommended that you allow about 2 hours to complete it and more if you are going with a bigger group. Being that this trail was so short, our group of 3 Jeep JK Unlimited Rubicons, 2 JK Unlimited Saharas and 2 JK 2-Doors Xs decided to first run another short but difficult rated trail nearby trail called Sidewinder. Unfortunately, it would also be the only trail that a majority of our group would do.

Project-JK NorCal Niagara Rim OHV Jeep Trail 2008
For our fourth and final Project-JK Norcal 2008 summer run, we decided to head up to the Niagara Rim OHV trail which is located deep in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, east of Modesto and near to the Sonora Pass. Of the 10 Jeep JK Wrangler's we had in our group (three 2-door and seven 4-door), most were slightly to moderately built up and one was bone stock with street tires. Of the drivers we had, most had some wheeling experience but never on the kind of terrain they would be seeing and a couple were in fact total newbies. At just a little over 6 miles in length, Niagara Rim is a relatively short trail that normally would take about 3 hours to complete but soon after we started the trail, it became clear to us that we wouldnt be getting back to camp until the end of the day. Because Niagara Rim is a "difficult" rated trail, we did make it a requirement that everyone had to have front and rear tow hooks and as it would turn out, they were very much needed and more than once. Throughout the day, we made our way up, down and across obstacles such as "No Way Out", "Hard Break Hill", "Sidewall Suicide" and ended our day playing around at the "Lion's Butt" which is about the closest thing to Moab I have seen here in California. The next day, most of our group headed home leaving only 3 Jeeps including ours to run the "Rock Pile" . Essentially the Rock Pile is a huge granite play area with all kinds of crazy route that will test your Jeep and your nerves to the limit <b>...</b>

How to fold The Windshield of a Jeep Wrangler JK
This is a step by step how to. You will notice there are 3 tools needed. A philips head screw driver, a 13mm deep well socket w/ ratchet w/ extender, and a t40 torx. One step i left out which should be counted as the first is to remove the plastic covers on the a-pillers of the windshield. I took mine off the 1st week i had my jeep. I never liked the way they looked. Make sure you put all bolts back into the holes they came out of for safe storage. That will also keep dirt out of the threads as you drive your Jeep w/ the windshield down. Make sure you carry all parts w/ you and remember how to put it back together. It's allways better to have another person there w/ you when you put it back together. It took me twice as long when i put it back up.

Part 3 of RUBICON : A Legendary Jeep Trail & Off-Road Adventure is the last chapter in a 3 part series that was originally made as a single half hour long video. In this final episode, we kick start our morning at the crack of dawn and with a welder in hand. Once repairs are made to Trail Bud's broken front axle housing, we head over to the cool waters of Rubicon Springs and spend some time cleaning up and having some fun. Packed up and ready to roll again, we slowly climb our way up the last real challenge on the Rubicon Trail - Cadillac Hill. At the top, we take in the awesome view, pose for pictures, assess the condition of our Jeeps and then make our way back to civilization down in South Lake Tahoe. Green Day 4x4 Trail. Part of area BFE. Our small group of two Black Rubicons and a black TJ had a fun day. First watched the JK experience Jeeps take on helldorado, then we went and ran Green Day. The larger JK was sporting a new Teraflex 6 inch LCG, 38x14.5 MTR, poison spyder rock sliders and fenders. Poison spyder front bumper. Had a great time, broke in a new rig.
