My Scammell Amazon having a rude awakening. Engine is a 13 litre, Rolls Royce Eagle Diesel. It was -4 on the day. Decided to start without using the cold start device, hence the battery trolley to boost the start power. This was the very last Amazon CR100 model, built by Scammell Lorries at Watford England, now sadly closed. Only 4 or 5 of these lorries, are left in existance.

Scammell s26 8*6. Later model, badged Leyland-Daf, under a pre-Paccar ownership joint venture (post 1993). This venture failed, and DAF was rescued by a management buy-out. Leyland went back to become Leyland Trucks. Daf was purchased in 1996 by Paccar, but Leyland too was purchased by Paccar in 1998, bringing the names back together again. The name SCAMMELL, which was resigned to special duty vehicles) was purchased under this agreement. Leyland trucks are still made, but are badged 'DAF'. The S26 't45' cab is no longer in production, as it is too similar to the Cabtec DAF cab - which is sold as a special duty vehicle in the USA under the name Kenworth. This Scammell S26 is British Army 'DROPS' configuration (8x6). The flat rack on the back is demoutable hydraulically. The engine is a Rolls Royce Eagle Mk3 305 6 cylinder diesel developing 297hp. All Army S26s' are left hand drive due to deployment areas. Lots are still in service in 2008 in Iraq and Afganistan, representing the British army (a fitting prediciment perhaps, as the S26 was one of the last true british trucks ever made). Soon to be replaced by already-purchased MANs, the fleet will be retired, handed over to the TA , and sold at government auction. Note the 'warp speed captain!!!' parking brake lever, rear winscreen wipers and lack of tachograph...

The complete story in 1961 of the transportation of the Great Western steam locomotive 4073 "Caerphilly Castle" from Park Royal, Swindon to Kensington Science Museum. Pickford's Scammell Junior Constructors are responsible for hauling the massive load through the narrow streets of London. This engine has now been returned to Swindon's Steam Museum.

Hauling a 130ft distillation column 500 miles from Greenwich to the Forth Chemical Works at Grangemouth long before the introduction of motorways and by-passes using 2 chain drive Scammell`s and solid tyred bogies. Some dodgy health & safety issues by todays standards - like crawling under moving trailers and hands infront of moving wheels! Very nostalgic road and town/city scenes & commentary. Scammell recovers Scammell at War and Peace show trial 2010 The Casualty was bellied out with the fuel tank against the bank, and the rear bodywork and mudguard are dug into the same bank. The bent front mudguard has already been jacked off the wheel before recovery commenced. The plan was to winch at an angle to prevent the casualty (see why this becomes an operation?) going further into the next hole, the driver is powering the wheels in order to steer against the winch to protect the fuel tank which is against the bank, this did not work. Winch truck one then repositioned to get a better line, trying to steer against the winch did not work, air powered steering is not the best in this situation, it has to be said. The next plan was to attach winch truck two to pull the casualty straight forward to save the tank and rear mudguard from further damage, and when past the bank the main winch truck would take over and pull it out sideways. For some reason when winch truck two revved his engine and started to winch nothing happened, no idea why though, forgot to ask. As you can see the casualty came out but with further damage to the rear wing.
